EU gives two months to transpose law on critical infrastructure protection

The European Commission has given Portugal two months to notify the institution of its transposition of the European Union (EU) directive on the protection of critical infrastructures, after the country has failed to do so by the deadline. This directive aims to protect critical infrastructures in 11 sectors, including energy, transport, health, water, banking and digital, from threats like natural disasters, terrorist attacks, internal threats, and/ or sabotage. In addition to Portugal, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, have equally “failed to notify the Commission of any national measures transposing this directive by the deadline of October 17, 2024”. In other words, only three countries appear to have complied.
