Portugal’s Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel has said today that Europe and Africa will only be relevant on the international stage if they join forces to balance the emerging influence of the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking on the sidelines of the Eurafrican Forum, taking place today and tomorrow in Carcavelos, near Lisbon, he said: “Almost all of the major threats and opportunities that Europe faces in the next century will require cooperation with Africa, and vice versa (…) the only way to gain influence on a global level is to work together, increasingly together and in tandem”.
