Évora invests in aeronautics

A COMPANY based in Évora in the Alentejo is to start building wings and tails for Brazilian airplane producer Embraer.

An agreement with the Portuguese government for the new Embraer parts factory was signed on Monday at the Évora Municipal Aerodrome.

The project has an estimated investment of 148 million euros and will employ 570 people directly.

Two other aeronautical projects are already underway in the region, one involving the production of helicopter parts and the other the building of the future Skylander, a twin turbo prop light aircraft.

The Skylander project by Sky Aircraft Industries will cost 100 million euros and is expected to launch its first prototype next year.

The company is said to have received 400 orders already from all over the world, mainly Dubai.
