The queues for attention at AIMA outlets, particularly those in Lisbon, continue with yesterday seeing foreign immigrants suffer a form of ‘meltdown’. Following hours of waiting, the people in the queue were told ‘that was it for today’, and absolutely refused to take the news without registering their complaints. They ‘invaded’ AIMA’s office, demanding their rights, calling for a complaints book to be made available so they could register their dissatisfaction. When this was refused, PSP police were called. Eventually a complaints book appeared, and many resorted to using it. The incident made the evening news, but whether it resulted in any tangible improvement to the needs of so many held up by Portugal’s unique form of customer service is not clear.
