Faro approves 2025 budget with record €48 million investment

Nearly half of the budget is going into roadworks

Faro’s municipal budget for 2025 has been approved with a record of nearly €50 million in investments planned.

Major investment projects span sectors such as education, housing, infrastructure, and tourism. Significant allocations have been made for road upgrades (€23.4 million), with €2.5 million of this total set aside for roadworks in suburban and rural areas. The sum also includes significant ventures such as the Marchil roundabout (€2.1 million) and the Faro-Olhão Ecovia (€2.2 million).

Key educational investments include completing renovations at Estoi primary school (€205,721), the Afonso III schools (€2.5 million), alongside renovating the Neves Júnior school (€5.5 million in 2025).

Housing plans include finishing social housing units on Rua Ludovico Menezes (€1.9 million) and in Montenegro (€707,901).

The budget also features cultural and urban projects, such as the Bordeira Cultural Centre (€1.1 million).

Other notable investments include the Faro yacht harbour (€678,674 investment in 2025), and renovations to riverside neighbourhoods (€1.5 million), and Faro’s “central axis” (€3.3 million), as well as a major port expansion (€8.5 million).

The municipal council has also announced that a municipal police force will be launched in 2025, while a new communication centre will be installed at the municipal ‘Sapadores’ fire station.

After overcoming “great challenges in recent years,” the municipality has unveiled its largest budget ever, which is paving the way for several major projects.

These are important investments throughout the entire municipality, which will allow Faro to look to the future differently, with optimism and hope,” said Faro mayor Rogério Bacalhau.

To help bring these projects to life, Faro is counting on a total projected revenue of over €102 million in 2025.
