PSD Faro celebrates approval of “essential document”
PSD Faro has celebrated the approval of the revised Municipal Master Plan (PDM) for Faro, described as an “essential document for territorial planning and the strategic development of the municipality in the coming years.”
The plan was approved by the municipal assembly last week following a “long period of review and coordination, which spanned over a decade” and involved feedback from “more than 40 administrative entities with interests in the territory”.
Says the municipal delegation of the social-democratic party, the approval of the PDM “marks a significant milestone in urban planning and the development of the municipality, as it represents a crucial step for the future of Faro.”
Included in the plan are “key infrastructure projects”, from a new congress centre and a fair and exhibition park to a “regional modal interface” – in other words, a new transportation hub in Patacão – and a commercial and industrial park near the Mercado Abastecedor de Faro (Faro Supply Market).
As PSD Faro puts it, the plan “addresses current needs while anticipating future challenges”, aiming to “promote balanced and sustainable growth” for the municipality despite “various territorial constraints.”
Municipal master plans are designed to regulate land occupation, use, and transformation, establishing the development strategy for a municipality and serving as a guiding instrument for the creation of other municipal plans. The previously effective PDM was a “first-generation plan,” says PSD Faro, originally approved in 1995.
