Faro Council has donated 25 beds to the Algarve University Hospital Board (CHUA) in a bid to boost its response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donation was made after the hospital board requested support from the regional civil protection authority.
Says the council, it had already collaborated with CHUA to turn the Sporting Clube Farense pavilion, if needed, into a support area for Faro Hospital.
It adds that it has 75 further beds available to set up a field hospital if the pandemic worsens, namely at the Penha municipal pavilion.
The 100 beds were purchased by the council in April when the country was focused on ‘beefing up’ its response to the pandemic.
