Faro Hospital suspends surgical emergency services for 24 hours

Faro Hospital’s surgical emergency department closed this Monday (December 30) at 9am and will remain closed until Tuesday at 9am, according to SIC.

Patients requiring urgent surgery will be redirected to Portimão Hospital, 60 kilometers away, the news channel reports.

Services will briefly reopen Tuesday but close again Wednesday at 9am, resuming Thursday.

Meanwhile, pediatric emergencies in Portimão remain closed since December 26, redirecting cases to Faro.

These closures coincide with high New Year’s Eve tourism in the Algarve, where field hospitals are being prepared in areas where major parties are planned, such as Albufeira.
