PJ’s current facilities in Faro have “long ceased to be functional”
PJ criminal police in Faro will complete their much-anticipated relocation into new premises in September.
The announcement has been made by Braga-based construction company dst, which says that the regional directorate of the police force will move into the former health school of the University of Algarve (UA).
The move is part of a €4.8 million renovation project carried out by the company, which will encompass the building and its surrounding area.
“This project will allow the PJ to enjoy a new, more central location in the city, offering improved conditions, space, comfort, and services, therefore improving the quality of services provided to the public,” dst states in a press release.
Bruno Martins, dst’s production director, highlights that the current PJ facilities are outdated, consisting of “several residential buildings within the city’s historic walls, which have long ceased to be functional”. The new headquarters will offer also better working conditions and more space, he adds.
The architectural intervention aims to “comprehensively renew the building’s infrastructure, focusing on the HVAC system, electrical installations, and telecommunications. In coordination with the security team, significant improvements will be made to the building’s fire safety systems, adhering to current regulations wherever possible. Additionally, the exterior parking area will feature covered spaces with solar panels, promoting the building’s energy autonomy,” the press release explains.
The project is being managed by Engenheiros Associados, Consultores Em Engenharia, Lda. (EACE), with oversight by WA – Engenharia e Consultoria.
