The Angels Theatre Group which entertains for charity handed over a cheque for €7,500 to the Faro Red Cross on Saturday, December 7.
The money was raised by the Angels in their recent production ‘A Night at the Ritz’, a revue of the works of Cole Porter.
The Red Cross project will help to transform a building in Faro into a small geriatric residence and nursing home.
Work has already started and the money will help purchase articulated beds, special mattresses as well as medical supplies for the home support service.
The Angels were given a guided tour of the house and were impressed with the extent of the services provided to those less fortunate in the community.
“Not only is there a food collection centre, washrooms and sleeping accommodation but also a laundry which collects, washes and returns clothes to many needy old people,” said a spokesperson for the group.
“The Faro Red Cross is a dedicated and hard working group of people and The Angels are happy to have been able to contribute to this project.”
