Fat fines for junk food publicity near schools or on children’s TV

Starting this week any publicity for junk food (items containing high levels of salt, fat or sugar) are banned from a 100-metre radius round schools, and cannot be aired on children’s TV.

Any non-compliance with the new law risks fines that could reach up to 45,000 euros.

Included in the list of ‘no-no’ foods are chocolates and even energy bars containing more than 40 calories.
