OSCARS IS a new traditional pub that has recently opened at Vila Sol Shopping Centre.
“This is something I believe Vila Sol has needed for a long time,” said local resident Barry Warwick, who, along with his son Lloyd and daughter-in-law Jessica, developed and created this little piece of Britain in the heart of the Algarve.
Starting with a blank canvas, the family employed an Irish interior design company to create something unique in the region. All the construction work was carried out by Portuguese builders.
Opened on July 18, Oscars, named after Lloyd and Jessica’s first child, has been beautifully decorated with the utmost attention to detail.
“We wanted everything to be perfect, from the toilets to the leaded glass windows,” said Barry.

Oscars offers everything you would expect of a traditional pub, including food like bangers & mash, crunchy fish & chips, steak & ale pie, 100 per cent beef burgers, salads, quiches, dish of the day and much more. All manner of drinks are available, from Guinness to Portuguese wines. Barry said: “We only sell Portuguese wines as we think they are so good”.
“We want Oscars to become ‘the local’ for this area and therefore offer a loyalty card to Vila Sol residents, offering a 10 per cent discount,” he said. “So far we have been very successful – families in particular love it. They know they are very welcome and that they have no worries when they are here.”
The pub covers a total area of 200sqm, seating 50 on the outside decked terrace, 60 on the upstairs terrace and inside 60 sitting and 40 standing.
Live music is performed on Friday and Saturday nights. There are a number of TV screens for sporting events and there are plans for a traditional Christmas with fantastic decorations. Private functions are catered for on the upstairs terrace.
