The second weekend of September (10-11) will be dedicated to cockle delights in the small village of Figueira on the outskirts of Portimão.
Known to attract “thousands of visitors” every year, the ‘Festival do Berbigão’ is returning to the village’s sports centre with all kinds of cockle-based dishes, such as cockle rice, pasta and rissoles.
There will also be a colourful list of musical entertainment.
This 14th festival has strong links to the Ria de Alvor shellfishing industry, once the livelihood of many local families.
The event takes place between 7pm and 1am.
Admission is €3 and includes a complimentary plate of cockles.
