Final tally: AD’s ‘winning margin’ narrowest in Portuguese history

With all the votes from last Sunday’s legislative election now counted, results published in State gazette Diário da República show that the AD centre-right alliance won by the narrowest margin in the history of Portuguese democracy: just 54,000 votes. Compared to the elections of 2022, the centre right gained 159,000 votes; the PS lost 490,000, CHEGA increased its share by 770,000 votes, Bloco de Esquerda managed another 31,000. LIVRE another 133,000 on the 2022 tally and PAN another 37,000. CDU (the communist/ greens alliance) lost 31,000 votes (as well as two further MPs).
