Find out how the weather is looking for Carnaval weekend

Couples may have to reach out to each other for real warmth and comfort this Valentine’s Day, as weather experts are predicting rain and even snow in some areas of Portugal. The forecast for Carnaval Day is a little better, with rain banished by chillingly low temperatures, possibly dropping below zero in hillside areas.

For tomorrow (February 14), IPMA meteorologist Madalena Rodrigues predicts “very cloudy skies” and bouts of rain which “may gain intensity in the north and centre of Portugal in the afternoon”. Snow is also expected in areas above 1,000/2,000 metres.

Temperatures will range between 9ºC-15ºC in Lisbon, 8ºC-13ºC in Porto, 4ºC-9ºC in Bragança, 3ºC-8ºC in Guarda, 7ºC-14ºC in Castelo Branco and 9ºC-17ºC in Faro.

On Sunday, minimum temperatures will be dropping but maximums will be increasing, with rain still looming throughout most of the country, the meteorologist told Lusa.

Thankfully for Carnaval celebrations, IPMA predicts the rain will stop on Monday and leave Carnaval Tuesday with clear or partially-clouded skies, with temperatures ranging between 7ºC and 16ºC in Lisbon, 3ºC and 15ºC in Porto, -2ºC and 10ºC in Bragança, -2ºC and 7ºC in Guarda, 0ºC and 14ºC in Castelo Branco and 9ºC and 19ºC in Faro.
