A well-known restaurant in Altura, Castro Marim, has been completely destroyed by a fire that broke out in the dining room and then spread quickly to the rest of the premises.
It was around 12.30am on Sunday (November 18) when the owner of Girassol was informed that the restaurant was being engulfed by flames.
âThe strong winds helped intensify the fire. Not even the firefighters could go in due to the flames. Even the aluminium melted,â 69-year-old Fernando Sousa, who has owned the restaurant for 30 years, told Correio da ManhĂŁ.
Over 30 firefighters battled the flames for nearly three hours. GNR police are investigating the cause of the fire, although Sousa says he doubts criminal activity was involved.
âThere was a power blackout in the area around the time that the fire started,â he said, citing a possible cause for the fire.
