A restaurant at Portimão’s popular Praia do Vau beach was partially destroyed by a fire which broke out early this Tuesday morning (January 16).
Authorities were alerted to the fire at 6.15am, a civil protection source told Lusa news agency, while a maritime police source confirmed that the flames had been extinguished by 7.10am.
Correio da Manhã tabloid adds that the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the restaurant due to a short-circuit.
Twenty-two firefighters aided by 10 vehicles were at the scene, alongside PSP and maritime police forces and local civil protection services.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
