Firefighter injured in Portimão house fire
A fireman was injured while battling a house fire on Rua D. Maria Luísa in Portimão this Wednesday afternoon (November 20).
The blaze broke out in a single-storey house at around 1.17pm and was brought under control at 2.46pm, said a source from the Algarve’s civil protection command.
Large plumes of smoke could be spotted from several parts of the town emanating from Rua D. Maria Luísa, which runs parallel to part of Rua Infante D. Henrique, the main entrance road after Portimão’s old bridge over the Arade River.
A total of 29 personnel from Portimão’s volunteer firefighters, PSP police and civil protection services were called to the scene.
The injured firefighter was taken to Portimão Hospital, while the cause of the fire is still unknown.
