CCTV system helped solve crime in Faro just three days after it was inaugurated
PSP police have identified four people suspected of robbing a store in the centre of Faro thanks to footage from the town’s new CCTV surveillance cameras.
The crime took place at around 6am on Friday (August 30) when the group broke into the store and stole several items worth around €300, causing damage which has yet to be calculated, PSP police say in a statement to the press.
Using the footage from the new surveillance cameras and the findings from its investigation, the police force was able to track down four young people, aged 17 to 19, at a nightlife establishment in Faro. All four were named ‘arguidos’ (official suspects), the statement adds.
The town’s new CCTV system was inaugurated on August 27 by the municipal council in partnership with PSP police. Telmo Correia, Secretary of State for Internal Administration, attended the ceremony.
The system features 41 cameras set up in key locations throughout the town where crimes are considered most likely to occur. Implementing the system represented an investment of over €550,000.
