Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline now flies between Faro and Madrid Barajas airport, meaning the airline now operates flights from Faro to five destinations – Brussels, Dublin, Shannon, Barcelona and Madrid.

The airline’s sales and marketing executive for Spain, commented: “Ryanair began operations in Faro in March 2003 and, in less than three years, we have carried more than 150,000 passengers.” She went on to say that the new route will create 100 additional jobs in the Algarve region, deliver 100,000 additional passengers to Faro airport and will generate 21 million euros in tourist spend in its first year of operation.

The Algarve also become closer to Barcelona this month as Ryanair launched a services from Faro Airport to another Spanish Airport – Girona. This flight will be operated four times a week.
