Football fans clash in Albufeira after England-Netherlands match

GNR police intervened after the brawl broke out in Albufeira but no one was identified

GNR police were forced to intervene on Thursday night (July 10) after a brawl broke out in Albufeira’s Oura bar ‘strip’ following England’s Euro 2024 semi-final win over Netherlands.

Thousands of tourists gathered in the town yesterday to watch the game, with English fans filmed celebrating the win in a video shared by Albufeira resident and local politician Paolo Funassi on the ‘Albufeira Paradise‘ Facebook page.

However, a brawl between two groups of youngsters broke out shortly after the match, forcing GNR officers on horseback to intervene in order to stop the violence, reports SIC. However, the police force was unable to identify those involved and no complaints were filed.

This was just the latest example of the “excesses” that Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo has publicly declared war on. Last month, the local council vowed to create a Code of Conduct for local bars and nightlife establishments following a case of public nudity in which several naked men were filmed on top of a bar counter in Albufeira’s Oura ‘strip’.
