Former director of Banco Privado Português (BPP) Paulo Guichard returned to Portugal from Brazil to serve a four year eight month jail term, but has since seen further cases against him add exponentially to his time behind bars. The latest shock has been a cumulative sentence of 13 years and six months, which lawyer Nuno Brandão says Guichard will be appealing to the Supreme Court of Justice. Guichard has been variously found guilty of computer fraud, document forgery, tax fraud, abuse of trust, money laundering and qualified fraud. The principal banker in this debacle killed himself in a South African jail.
