Former MP cited for murder ‘free to leave country again’

The extraordinarily long-winded prosecution of former PSD MP Duarte Lima for the murder of an heiress in Brazil 16 years ago has taken a surprising new turn. Two years after being the subject of various coercive measures, ahead of his trial in this country, judicial time limits have kicked in. Mr Lima has had his passport returned; he no longer has to report weekly to police and he is effectively free to leave the country once again. The former MP was condemned to a six year jail sentence for his part in the BPN banking debacle, serving three and a half years before being re-arrested for the murder of Rosalina Ribeiro.
