Four-day week classified by 80% of companies as ‘financially neutral’

The Portuguese pilot project on the feasibility (for some companies) of a four-day working week has seen 80% of company bosses classify the change as having had a completely neutral effect on revenue. Only one company among the 41 taking part in the scheme (employing 332 people) reported that it had to hire an extra member of staff. The project saw working hours reduce from 41.6 (pre-pilot) to 36.5 (during pilot) and employees reporting improvements to their mental and physical health, family and social lives and an overall improvement in how they enjoyed their working life. Bottom line: 93% of the employees who took part in the scheme want the four-day week to become the norm.
