A 36-year-old prisoner serving 10 years in Coimbra jail for theft has been the fourth prisoner to be found hanging in his cell in the last three months.
All the recent suicides have been found “in similar circumstances”, said news reports. This latest death was of a prisoner who had already served four years of his sentence and had no record for attempting escape.
