Free birdwatching events at Lagoa dos Salgados

There will also be events focusing on geology, flora and insect identification

The Portuguese Society for Bird Studies (SPEA) is hosting an Open Day event at the Algarve’s Lagoa dos Salgados on Saturday (February 3).

“Join us in celebrating the International Day of Wetlands at Lagoa dos Salgados, a future Natural Reserve. Throughout the day, we will have birdwatching events, as well as events focused on flora, geological features of the area, and insect identification,” SPEA says.

No registration is needed, with those interested needing only to turn up on the day.

The meeting point will be the Lagoa dos Salgados car park at 9.30am for the morning sessions and 2pm for the afternoon events.

In the morning, there will be two birdwatching events, one led by João Ministro and the other by Rui Eufrásia (both from Proactivetur), as well as a botanical event guided by Carla Cabrita from WalkinSagres and an insect identification event conducted by Horácio Correia, all starting at 10am.

The afternoon sessions will begin at 2.30pm with two birdwatching events, led by Georg Schreier from Birdwatching Algarve and Rui Eufrásia, as well as a tour focusing on the geological features of the area headed by Bruno Rodrigues from the Portuguese Environmental Agency (APA).
