The government’s decision to enable under-23s to travel on public transport free of charge, irrespective of whether or not they are still in further education, kicks in on Sunday. According to minister for infrastructures and housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, all young people will have to do to access this benefit is show their citizens’ card (proving their age). The measure, approved under the government’s Green Mobility Package implies a cost (to the state) of around €40 million, and should benefit around 240,000 citizens.
