Portuguese nationals and residents in Portugal now have 52 days a year to visit public museums, monuments and palaces free of charge.
Since August 1, free entry to state-owned museums, monuments, and palaces is no longer restricted to Sundays and public holidays. From now on, Portuguese nationals and residents in Portugal can choose 52 days of free access per year, a new measure that will also help manage the flow of visitors, explained the Minister of Culture, Dalila Rodrigues.
“What changes is that Portuguese people and residents of Portugal now have 52 days per year, on any day of the week, to visit the 37 public museums, monuments, and palaces free of charge,” said the Minister, exclaiming that we now have “Complete freedom. We can visit any day of the week”.
“The free entries, which until now had been limited to Sundays and bank holidays, now offer full freedom of action and choice. There is no reason for Portuguese people and residents of Portugal not to visit our museums and monuments”, she concluded.
To ensure entry to these locations, visitors must register at the ticket offices by presenting their identification, allowing their 52-day limit to be monitored in a central database.
Since the regulation took effect in August, there are just 22 days left in the year for free visits to the various museums, monuments, and palaces.
