Eurofighter (Typhoon) suffered “warning of damage; smoke in cockpit”
A French military plane made a safe emergency landing today at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, in Maia, due to a malfunction on board, a civil protection source has told Lusa.
According to the source from Porto Sub-Regional Command, the alert was sounded at around 9:37 am, and the French ‘Eurofighter fighter’, with four hours of fuel, two occupants, an onboard alert and smoke in the cockpit, landed safely at around 10:10 am.
The incident was classified as an “alert level 2 (yellow)”.
According to Lusa, 13 fire brigades in the region were thus on standby, with a total of 40 operational personnel and 15 vehicles.
What the Eurofighter had been doing (ie whether it had been conducting normal exercises) has not been explained.
