A WOMAN in England has received a three-month jail sentence for falsely claiming to be collecting funds for the Find Madeleine campaign.
Debbie Clift, a 33-year-old from Chadsmoor in Cannock, was caught after a resident became suspicious of her. A court heard she was carrying out a bogus door-to-door collection and managed to fool a pensioner who thought she would be helping the fund.
After the incident was reported to police, they were able to gather evidence through an appeal asking if anyone in the Chadsmoor area had given money to the Madeleine McCann cause. Clifton told the court she was sorry and regretted her actions, saying she needed the money because of an addiction to heroin.
