Future of Alagoas Brancas to be discussed in Lagoa

Event will be open to the community

The future of the Alagoas Brancas wetland will be discussed during a community debate at the São José Convent’s Auditorium on Saturday, April 20 at 10am to 5.30pm.

The event will bring together citizens, associations, environmental organisations, scholars, government entities and the municipal council of Lagoa to debate what should be done to preserve this unique natural site.

Kicking the event off will be a presentation on the wetland and the challenges it faces being located so closely to the town, touching upon subjects such as land planning, water management, botany and the several species of fauna and flora that can be found there. This will be followed by the presentation of the results of last February’s bioblitz – an event that brought together a group of specialists who attempted to identify the largest number of species they could at Alagoas Brancas in one single day.

In the afternoon, a private working session will bring together specialists from several sectors to debate concrete plans for the preservation of the wetland as part of the future Lagoa City Park between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. The proposals will then be presented to the community from 4pm onwards, providing an opportunity for everyone to discuss them and provide their contributions.

The event will end with a roundtable discussion featuring representatives from several major national and regional entities, associations, and groups.

Registrations can be made online.
