German Erasmus student rescued from drowning on Saturday dies in hospital

Circumstances of drowning under investigation

The 23-year-old German student rescued from drowning during a surf lesson on the Costa Caparica on Saturday has died in hospital.

The young woman’s prognosis was given as ‘reserved’ after the rescue – and her condition described as critical.

At the time, questions were raised as to whether the surf school was paying due attention to its people in the sea.

Since then, however, very little further has been said, beyond the fact that the school in question is “collaborating with the investigation into the incident”.

The young victim was studying for her Master’s in Computer Science at Lisbon’s Universidade Nova de Ciências e Tecnologia.
