A man was fined by GNR police on January 5 for illegally keeping an African spurred tortoise, the largest mainland species of tortoise in the world, inside a house in Albufeira.
The tortoise was recovered by GNR agents and handed over to the Institute of Nature and Forest Conservation (ICNF).
