Giant tree lights up Lagoa’s Christmas fair

The “big surprise” that Lagoa council promised for its Christmas fair has at last been revealed – a 10 metre-high Christmas tree, decorated with 270 metres of LED lights.
The tree’s biggest novelty is that it will include a bar at the base of the structure, where mulled wine and cocktails will be served.
Organisers hope the tree will bring people flocking. The Christmas fair will take place between December 12 and 14 in front of the municipal auditorium.
A record-number of exhibitors have booked stalls to sell everything from liqueurs, sweets and cakes to ceramics, handicrafts, Christmas decorations and much more.
There will also be musical entertainment featuring some of the Algarve’s best performers, including the irrepressible Beto Kalulu with his trademark afro hair and wonderful band, up-and-coming singer Catarina Barão and regional group Sneaky Mouse.
But that isn’t all. A youth entertainment programme including musical and theatre performances is also on the agenda, like the one by students of the ESPAMOL school group at noon on December 12 and the performance by Salsinha the clown at 4.30pm on December 14.
And while the fair may end on Sunday, the municipality’s festivities will continue the following weekend with Carvoeiro’s own fair between December 19 and 21 in the square in front of the beach.
Featuring a number of exhibitors and a range of festive performances, some of the highlights will be a Santa parade by local children at 10am on the Friday and a Zumba dance class at 3pm on the Sunday. There will also be live music each day, theatre performances and children’s activities.
