Government creates working group to define strategic state companies

Portugal’s government has set up a working group to define strategic companies in the state business sector and propose how to dispose of non-strategic companies.

The working group will “survey the companies in the state business sector (including companies with exclusively public capital and subsidiaries) that are considered strategic in the terms set out above, excluding Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the Águas de Portugal group, RTP and Companhia das Lezírias from the scope of the analysis”.

The group will have to identify the companies considered strategic, indicate the method/regime of disposal of the companies not included and estimate the revenue resulting from the disposal.

The report drawn up by the group must be submitted by 31 March, 2025.
