Government eases rules on number of non-national crewmembers allowed on fishing boats

Today’s Council of Ministers has approved the possibility of “introducing flexibility” to the fishing sector by relaxing rules on the number of non-nationals” who can be part of a crew on fishing vessels. The decision follows reported difficulties by the sector in putting together crews with the specified number of accredited Portuguese fishermen. The law currently specifies that Portuguese should comprise at least 50% of fishing boat crews.
