Portugal’s government has announced today that it is moving forwards on indemnifying the families of the five GNR military killed in last Friday’s helicopter crash in the Douro river, near Samodães, Lamego. In a dispatch signed last night, the ministry of interior administration said that Luís Montenegro’s executive “does not forget, nor will it forget, those who gave their lives for others”. It will do everything possible, “in compliance with the law”, to ensure that the compensation process takes place as quickly as possible. Four of the five men who died left behind eight children.
