At the end of September, the Sevenair Group indefinitely suspended the air connection until the Government began paying a €3.8 million debt and signed a new contract.
The Government announced on Saturday, 21, that the Bragança-Portimão air link will be resumed after the public tender was concluded and awarded to Sevenair.
“Once the public tender concluded, the service awarded to Sevenair and financial commitments met, as well as Sevenair’s contractual obligations with the State reestablished, the public services provided by this connection can once again be resumed in full”, indicated the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.
According to the cabinet led by Miguel Pinto Luz, reestablishing flights on the Bragança/Vila Real/Viseu/Portimão/Cascais route represents a notable success for the Executive, facilitating the return of public service.
It explained that the contract would be signed before the end of the year and that flights would resume after the Court of Auditors approved it.
Sevenair had already had the concession for the Bragança/Vila Real/Viseu/Portimão/Cascais route, a concession contract between March 2019 and February 2022. Due to delays in the process, it was extended twice without a public tender.
At the end of September, the Sevenair Group announced that it would interrupt the Bragança-Portimão air connection on September 30 for an indefinite time until the Government began paying its debt (of 3.8 million euros) and signed a new contract.
Sérgio Leal, the flight director, mentioned that the Sevenair Group had once again sought the service, highlighting that the company had been the only applicant for the past 15 years.
