Government seeks to block €100 million capital increase in Águas de Portugal

Ordered by prime minister António Costa, Portugal’s new AD government is stepping in to block the €100 million increase in capital in Águas de Portugal. Its decision comes over concerns about the “lack of clarity in the company’s future plans, and the potential impact on public debt”, explain reports. It appears the request for a new capital increase came AFTER AdP distributed exactly that amount to public stakeholders. But before a decision is definitive, UTAM, the technical unit for accompanying and monitoring the public business sector, must approve AdP’s activity plan for 2024.
