Government signs deals with 14 local authorities for 4,130 ‘social’ houses

Portugal’s government signed agreements worth €400 million today with the local authorities of 14 municipalities in Lisbon and the Tejo Valley to build and/ or rehabilitate 4,130 homes for needy families.

Almada, Alcochete, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Odivelas, Oeiras, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira all signed agreements and terms of responsibility and acceptance today at the prime minister’s official residence in Lisbon, under the Support Programme for Access to Housing, financed by the PRR (Brussels’ backed Plan for Recovery and Resilience ) At the same ceremony, agreements were also signed with the municipalities of Fafe, Guimarães, Lamego and Matosinhos, increasing the number of homes in the northern region under the same measure to 1,450.

Under the agreements with these four municipalities, 355 homes will be built/ rehabilitated, for a total investment of €54 million. According to information provided by the government, more than 300 contracts and terms of responsibility have already been signed with local councils for the construction and rehabilitation of homes, totalling around €720 million.
