Government to create two temporary installation centres for immigrants in illegal situation in Portugal

The government has announced the construction of two temporary installation centres for immigrants in an illegal situation in this country. They will cost €30 million (financed by the European PRR – Plan for Recovery and Resilience) and be able to take up to 300 immigrants at one time. One of the centres will be in Odivelas, Lisbon; the other in the north (a location has still to be finalised). The decision was made during this afternoon’s Council of Ministers, with the explanation being that the country currently has nowhere to place foreign nationals found to be in an illegal situation in Portugal.
