The support is offered through the Environmental Fund
The Portuguese government is to offer incentives to encourage consumers to buy electric vehicles selling for up to €55,000 + VAT for those who need more seats than are normally provided by the average car.
Up until now, the support offered by the Environmental Fund (Fundo Ambiental) was €4,000 for private individuals buying electric vehicles at a final retail price of €38,500 + VAT. However, another category has been created for cars with a greater capacity to transport passengers.
This means that the €4,000 incentive will also be given to those buying 100% electric cars retailing at €55,000 + VAT if these vehicles have six, seven, eight or even nine seats.
Thus, the amount of incentives given by the government is €4,000 for cars up to €38,500 or up to €55,000 if they have more than five seats.
“With a total pool of incentives worth €13.5 million, we want to ensure that the Portuguese can benefit from transport options that are more efficient and environmentally friendly,” said Minister for the Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho.
- To be eligible for the incentive, buyers of new electric vehicles must scrap their old vehicle (older than 10 years) and must have been the owner of it for at least one year.
- In the case of an IPSS (Private Institution of Social Solidarity), the incentive is of €5,000.
