The Portuguese Polytechnic Institute of Guarda is leading a project to prevent functional decline and promote healthy ageing among older people living in low population density cross-border regions in Portugal and Spain. Project ‘SER65+: Integrated Multisectoral Actions to Support Healthy and Resilient Ageing’ will test an innovative intervention programme over six months on two hundred elderly people in the Intermunicipal Community of Beiras and Serra da Estrela (CIMBSE) and the Autonomous Community of Extremadura (Spain), the Polytechnic told Lusa on Wednesday. Its results will determine its implementation in other regions of Spain and Portugal. ‘SER65+’ will last three years and have a total investment of €1.2 million, co-financed by the European Union to the tune of €920,000.
