A young man is fighting for his life in Faro Hospital after being gunned down and left to die in Albufeira in the early hours of December 27.
Thirty-year-old Brazilian Diego Leite was found unconscious in pool of his own blood outside the Pavilhão Municipal.
PJ police are now investigating whether Leite’s passion for Airsoft – the simulation of police/military combat situations with special weapons – could have anything to do with the incident.
Leite was found in the early hours of Saturday morning in Rua Joaquim Magalhães, between the municipal pavilion and Escola EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita.
As he showed signs of having been beaten up, rescue workers were not initially aware that he had been shot. The bullet wounds were only identified once Leite had been admitted to Albufeira’s health centre, from which he was then transferred to Faro Hospital.
According to press reports on Sunday, Leite’s condition remains serious.
