‘Festa do Caracol’ (Snail Festival) returns to Faro between May 8 and 11
Faro’s beloved Snail Festival (‘Festa do Caracol’) is returning from Thursday to Sunday (May 8-11), once again taking place at Faro’s oldtown (Vila Adentro).
Organised by the Faro parish union, the event celebrates one of the Algarve’s most iconic seasonal delicacies: the humble snail. A favourite local treat, snails will be served in a variety of traditional ways.
The event, which aims to showcase the snail as an important part of the Mediterranean Diet, is also held to support local charity causes.
For more squeamish visitors, there will be other options to choose from, from hamburgers and pizzas to vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as crepes, sweets and Portuguese-style doughnuts (farturas).
With free entry, the event runs every day from 5.30pm to midnight, also featuring live music and entertainment for children.
