Doctors and nurses have begun complaining about the delays in receiving children’s vaccines required under the national vaccination programme: those against diphtheria, whooping cough, polio, tetanus etc. The reality, explains Expresso today, is that the government hasn’t purchased vaccines on the national programme for 2023. The ministry of health admits it needs to “fine tune” articulation with the finance ministry (which holds the purse strings). The DGS health authority (currently without an effective director general) is described as having called on the government to act with urgency “several times”.
