Divers returned to the River Douro in Lamego early this morning for the last day of searching for parts of the helicopter that crashed on Friday, killing all five elite GNR operatives onboard. Commander of the Northern Maritime Police Rui Silva Lampreia told Lusa that two boats and 11 Maritime Police operatives, including seven divers, were in the water until 1pm. It has not been explained how the investigation into the causes of this tragedy will be affected by the non-recovery of the onboard computer albeit divers recovered the tail rotor at the end of the morning. It was reported early today that the AS 350 Écureuil helicopter hit the surface of the water on Friday at speeds of ‘more than 200 km/ hour’.
