The local Intermarché store launches today a solidarity campaign to support the São Bartolomeu de Messines Volunteer Firefighters.
This Saturday, December 7, the Intermarché store in São Bartolomeu de Messines is kicking off a campaign to assist the efforts of the local fire department.
The campaign “Not all heroes wear capes. But they all use coupons” runs until December 31. During the whole month, customers will be able to acquire vouchers priced at €1, €2, €5, or €10, with all proceeds going to support the “peace soldiers”.
To kick off the campaign, a fire response vehicle will be stationed at the supermarket, accompanied by firefighting personnel who will be available for a photo opportunity.
On Sunday, the store will host a screening for its customers, namely blood pressure and blood sugar, to raise awareness about healthier eating.
The Fire Department Commander, Fábio Neto, highlighted that every solidarity campaign with financial returns involves investing in equipment. The current campaign has an almost impossible objective without state support: purchasing an urban firefighting vehicle, which requires an investment of around €350 000.
For now, the firefighting department aims to acquire personal protective equipment that will allow their local operatives in extrication, rescue and forest fire scenarios.
