Hepatitis A outbreak affects teenagers in Setúbal

Arrábida Local Health Unit is monitoring an outbreak of hepatitis A, affecting teenagers – one of which is in a serious condition. So far, “no association has been established with the possible consumption of specific foods or contaminated water”, the unit has said in a press statement, but in a bid to contain transmission a vaccination campaign has started “for children who may have been in contact with those who have contracted the disease in a school context”. Up till now, 20 people “most of them teenagers with an average age of 12” have been detected with the disease, says the health unit statement.
