Hikers flock to Ameixial for Walking Festival

Registrations are still open for several hikes and activities

The second of the Algarve’s main hiking festivals organised under the ‘Algarve Walking Season’ brand will take place next weekend (April 26-28) in Ameixial, Loulé.

Walking Festival Ameixial (WFA) is returning for its 11th edition with a big change in the form of a “special early check-in session” at the Decathlon store in Faro on Saturday, April 20, between 4pm and 6pm. Participants will be able to receive their participation bracelet, pick up or buy event t-shirts, pay for meals which have already been booked or even sign up for the available activities.

“The goal is to optimise the registration process for the festival’s participants,” says the QRER Cooperativa, which organises the event and usually sees its head office overcrowded with hikers looking to sign up in the days preceding the festival.

This year’s programme features around 30 hikes, some of which are already sold out, as well as other standout events, such as a workshop on the ‘Management of Walking Paths: the A2Z experience’, led by A2Z Adventures founder and CEO, Pedro Pedrosa, and a talk with photographer Ana Abrão, who will present her latest book Kalasha and share her travel experiences.

Online registrations for the hikes and events end on Monday, April 22. It will still be possible to sign up for activities on the days of the festival, but this will be dependent on the number of places available.

More information about the event can be found on the event’s website.
